8 tips for getting back on track AFTER the holidays

1-    Take a one-HOUR walk on New Year’s Day – and repeat, as often as you can. If you find it too long, try 30 minutes. Still too much? Cut it down to 20. Anything less than 20 minutes, however, will make slimming very tricky and make it physically impossible to stabilise any weight lost up to that point.
2-    On 2 January, get back on track with pure proteins. Eat approved Dukan foods only that day: Veal and beef (except rib steak), any kind of fish or seafood; poultry (without the skin and not duck); eggs (no cooking oil); low-fat turkey and chicken slices, bresaola and fow-fat dairy; vegetable proteins (tofu, seitan) and two litres of liquids – all in unlimited quantities!

3-    Starting 3 January, add non-starchy vegetables.
Focus on detoxifying foods in particular, such as artichoke, lamb’s lettuce, tomatoes, fennel, black radish and rhubarb (which is a vegetable, not a fruit). Eat these foods raw or cooked, in soups or purées.

4-    Continue or start taking vitamin C. One gram per day – or more if you’re exposed to the flu – will give you enough energy to face the cold and darkness of winter without caving to cravings for comfort food.

5-    Sleep more, weigh less
Science has proven that too little sleep or poor sleep contributes to weight gain and that restorative slumber suppresses the urge to eat. Pre-midnight sleep is doubly effective. Try to get to bed early – before 10:30 p.m. if possible – at least twice a week.

6-    Forget alcohol for 7 days
Not even a drop should pass your lips for the entire week, even at the expense of holiday toasts and other festivities. Raise a glass Perrier or Coca Cola instead!

7-    Whatever you do, don’t forget your oatbran. Try the Dukan galette, made from 1.5 tablespoons of oatbran, 1.5 tbsp of Non-fat quark and an egg white, cooked in a non-stick pan 3 minutes on each side. Eat once or twice depending on the level of Christmas dinner damage.

8-    Remember cider vinegar as well, with every meal. Or Devorcal, the nutritional supplement containing dried apple pectin extract to control carbs and appetite.
